During World War II, in a Libyan prison for British soldiers, the brutal Sergeant Major invests on grueling projects to break their spirits, which makes him be reprimanded by Joe Roberts, the prisoners' spokesman. After that, Roberts becomes the target of the most demeaning and humiliating of prison chores, but he and his four comrades bravely go through all of them.
