14-year-old Marie Heurtin, a born blind and deaf daughter of a humble artisan and his wife is sent to the Larnay Institute in central France, where an order of Catholic nuns manage a school for deaf girls. Although it appears desperate to Marie to build any connection with neither her parents nor the outside world, her unique potential strikes idealistic Sister Marguerite who determines on bringing the wild girl out of the darkness.
