The film is about Hortense Cumberbatch, a successful black woman who was adopted since she was a baby. After the death of her adoptive mother, she decides to trace her birth mother down. Ignoring the advice of public officers, Hortense insists on finding her origin, without knowing that it is the beginning of her dead-end days.
